Even though I don’t work on desktop at all, I’ve consiered buying Serato Sample while it’s on sale because it’s like a cheat code for samples. I think there’s some intimidation there as well as a not so secret yearning for Serato Sample/FL Detect Pitch Regions style functionality on iOS.

I’m always searching for a shortcut and likely wasting time better spent on learning how to do this by ear. Sometimes though, there are chords so that may complicate things as you said. Usually intros of songs from vinyl records. I genuinely think it will be easier and more accurate to learn to identify the root note, then experiment with just using your ear to play a scale starting on that note into an app like Tonality Chord / scale I usually try to find single instrument samples, guitar, horn, piano lines. I’d be happy to pay to grossly underuse the app, so long as I could get this one functionality out of it. So my question is, would using Sunvox for importing a sample and only using it for detecting the different notes throughout the length of the sample be an attainable goal for me? The app is on sale for $3 but I don’t want to get it if the task I want it for required a deep knowledge of trackers, modular synthesis and such. Someone suggested Sunvox for the pitch detection so I watched a couple of videos and the ui looks like advanced calculus and theoretical physics had a baby to me. I can’t pick out scales by listening although I have applied the keyboard trick some suggested here to find the root note, but I struggle with finding other notes, major, minor, mode, etc.
If you find a more eloquent solution however, I would love to hear it.Not the most musically gifted nor technically proficient iOS music maker here. One solution I’ve been looking at is “xbindkeys” and making a “rage quit kill key combo”, pushing ABXY+SEL+START at the same time kinda the same as what you could do to soft reset the original Game Boy, mapping it to the magic alt+sysrq key. But after trying to switch the preset (I added some preset from SB website) the sound disappears again. Turns out that if you cd into the SamplerBox folder and run sudo python setup.py build_ext -inplace each time before running SB the sound will work. After connecting midi controller, I ssh’d to the CPI and tried running python /opt/SamplerBox/samplerbox.py and at first it was working, but after trying it again there was no sound. I was using SamplerBox on Raspberry Pi before, so I tried to test it on CPI and it kind of works. It took me by surprise to find SamplerBox preinstalled in the OS and that it’s not mentioned anywhere in the UI. I see that this is not really active topic, but it’s the only one on this forum that mentions SamplerBox, so I’ll bump it
